The commonly used protection grades of motors are IP54, IP55, IP56, and IP65. What does the IP rating of these motors mean? What is the significance of the motor protection level? In this article, we will discuss this series of questions. The IP classification system uses a number to indicate the protection of the enclosure against shock and the intrusion of dust and water. 

The protection grade of the motor adopts the IP×× grade standard recommended by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Different installation places have different grades. The IP (INGRESS PROTECTION) protection grade system is drafted by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). Classify electrical appliances according to their dust and moisture resistance properties. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number indicates the level of the lamp from dust and foreign objects intrusion. The second number indicates the degree of airtightness of the lamp against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level. The so-called "IP44" can be selected by referring to the following instructions. In the grade standard, "XX" is a two-digit number, the first digit indicates the degree of protection against solids, and the second digit indicates the level of protection against liquids. The solid protection level has 7 levels, which are represented by 0-6 resp ectively; the liquid protection level has 9 levels, which are represented by 0-8 respectively. The meaning of the first digit after the motor protection level IP:

0: No protection, no special protection;

1: Prevent large solid intrusion;

2: to prevent the intrusion of medium-sized solids;

3: to prevent the invasion of solids larger than 1mm;

4: Prevent solids larger than 1mm from entering;

5: to prevent the accumulation of harmful dust;

6: Completely prevent dust from entering.

The meaning of the second digit after the motor protection class IP:

0: No protection, no special protection;

1: Anti-drip, vertical dripping water should not directly enter the product;

2: When the shell is tilted 15 degrees, water droplets dripping into the shell has no effect;

3: Water or rain has no effect on the shell from a 60-degree corner;

4: The liquid splashed on the shell from any direction has no damage effect;

5: Anti-spray water, water spray in any direction should have no harmful effect on the product;

6: Violent waves or strong water jets should have no harmful effect on the product;

7: Water-proof, the product is immersed in water under pressure, and the water intake should have no harmful effect on the product;

8: Diving, the product is immersed in water for a long time under the specified pressure, and the amount of water entering should have no harmful effect on the product.

For example: Ip65:

This 6 means that dust cannot enter (no dust), and this 5 means that the waterproof level is satisfied. Under normal circumstances, this level of industrial products is satisfied.
